October 2 is the day decreed by the United Nations (UN) to commemorate the International Day of Non-Violence .

This date was chosen in honor of one of the main leaders that has existed of non-violent movements Mahatma Gandhi , leader of the independence of India and who identifies non-violence as: " the greatest force at the disposal of mankind. It is more powerful than the most powerful weapon of destruction devised by the ingenuity of man . "

The principle of non-violence - also known as non-violent resistance - rejects the use of physical violence to achieve social or political change. Often described as "the politics of the common people"
