October 12 is the Day of Respect for Cultural Diversity, also known as Day of the Race. On this day the discovery of America by the navigator Christopher Columbus in 1492 is commemorated, constituting the beginning of the exchange of cultures between the indigenous peoples and the Spanish conquerors.
It has several names, but with the same objective: to commemorate the "first encounter between two worlds". It is known as Día de la Raza, Day of Indigenous Resistance, Hispanic Day, Cultural Diversity Day and in Spain specifically as Hispanic Day .
