Every October 13, World Thrombosis Day is celebrated, one of the most common and deadly diseases in the West and also one of the least known.

But what is thrombosis?

Thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot that covers a vein or artery , creating a plug that can generate multiple complications, from a heart attack to cardiovascular disease. This small clot is known as an " embolism " and is the main cause of many deaths in the Western world.

The main objectives of this celebration are:

  • Highlight the serious consequences of thrombosis, its high levels of morbidity and mortality.
  • Increase the knowledge of the world population, so that they can detect the signs, symptoms and risks of thrombosis.
  • Encourage people to talk to their treating doctors about the disease and request tests to ensure that they do not suffer from the disease or guarantee early detention.
